- The 3 Rules of meem Sakinah
Meem saakinah has three rules:
1-Al-ikhfa’ ash-shafawi الإخفاء الشفوي
2-Al-idgham ash-shafawi الإدغام الشفوي
3-Al-ith-har ash-shafawi الإظهار الشفوي
1- Al-ikhfa’ ash-shafawi
Meaning: The letter meem saakinah م must be followed by the letter baa ب.
Way of pronunciation: Meem saakinah م is pronounced by the two lips and then reaching baa ب in a clear pronunciation with a ghunnah.
Example: ترميهم بحجارة
2- Al-idgham ash-shafawi
Meaning: The letter meem saakinah م must be followed by another meem م (meem with tashkeel).
Way of pronunciation: Merge meem saakinahم into another meem followed by a lengthened ghunnah.
Example: لكم مَّا
3- Al-ith-har ash-shafawi
Meaning: The rest of the letters except the letters of ikhfaa’ and idgham ash-shafawi, and the meem saakinah will be followed by these letters.
Way of pronunciation: Pronounce meem clearly without ghunnah.
Example: صلاتِهِمْ سَاهُون
Be attentive:
If meem saakinah is followed by waw (و)or faa’ (ف), you mustn’t hide it because meem and waw share the same Maharaj ( the two lips) and Maharaj meem is near from makhraj of faa’ همْ فِيها
