1.  The 3 Rules of meem Sakinah

 Meem saakinah has three rules:

 1-Al-ikhfa’ ash-shafawi الإخفاء الشفوي

2-Al-idgham ash-shafawi الإدغام الشفوي

3-Al-ith-har ash-shafawi الإظهار الشفوي

1- Al-ikhfa’ ash-shafawi

Meaning: The letter meem saakinah م must be followed by the letter baa ب.

Way of pronunciation: Meem saakinah م is pronounced by the two lips and then reaching baa ب in a clear pronunciation with a ghunnah.

Example: ترميهم بحجارة

2- Al-idgham ash-shafawi

Meaning: The letter meem saakinah م must be followed by another meem م (meem with tashkeel).

Way of pronunciation: Merge meem saakinahم into another meem followed by a lengthened ghunnah.

  Example لكم مَّا

3- Al-ith-har ash-shafawi

Meaning: The rest of the letters except the letters of ikhfaa’ and idgham ash-shafawi, and the meem saakinah will be followed by these letters.

Way of pronunciation: Pronounce meem clearly without ghunnah.

Example: صلاتِهِمْ سَاهُون

Be attentive:

If meem saakinah is followed by waw (و)or faa’ (ف), you mustn’t hide it because meem and waw share the same Maharaj ( the two lips) and Maharaj meem is near from makhraj of faa’ همْ فِيها

Summary:

1-Al-ikhfa’ ash-shafawi : Meem saakinahمْ is followed by the letter baaب.

2-Al-idgham ash-shafawi : Meem saakinahمْ is followed by another meem (with tashkeel).
